Verified Volunteers Brings Fast-Pass to the CASA Network

Last month, we announced our partnership with CVNL (Center for Volunteer and Nonprofit Leadership), an organization that empowers local nonprofit leaders with the critical knowledge needed to develop fundraising programs, manage volunteer resources, establish board governance, and even recruit volunteers and run volunteer background checks. Verified Volunteers’ Fast-Pass provides member organizations of CVNL to extend the value of their volunteer screening process by making volunteer background checks shareable.
We are happy to announce that Verified Volunteers has entered into another partnership, this time with CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) for Children. Each and every day, more than 1,900 children become victims of abuse or neglect, and four of them lose their lives. CASA helps support citizen-volunteers in their quest to become significant advocates for neglected children through court proceedings and foster care programs. Verified Volunteers is pleased to be supporting the growing network of more than 75,000 CASA volunteers with a streamlined, cost-effective volunteer screening process.
CASA, or Court Appointed Special Advocates, was first conceived in 1977 when a Seattle court judge was concerned about making significant decisions about a child’s well-being with minimal information. The notion of utilizing a citizen volunteer to advocate for children and speak up for their interests took flight. Since then, CASA has grown and now operates more than 950 programs across the country, working to support nearly a quarter of a million neglected children.
This remarkable organization recruits, trains and prepares volunteers to advocate and watch over abused and neglected children, ensuring they aren’t lost in legal or social service systems. These dedicated individuals commit to the entire duration of each case, providing constant support in the child’s life until they are placed in a safe, permanent home.
Programs all over the country are making a significant impact in children’s lives. With a dedicated citizen volunteer by their side, a child:
- Is more likely to find a safe, permanent home
- Spends substantially less time in long-term foster care
- Receives more resources while in the system
- Has a higher success rate in school

A New Way to Efficiently Screen Volunteers
Although local CASA programs were some of the first organizations to join the Verified Volunteers network, expanding the program nationally means that volunteers and volunteer managers from any CASA program can easily obtain their background check for civic service.
Says Michael Piraino, National CASA CEO, “National CASA is continually seeking ways to strengthen and support volunteer screening for our member programs. We are pleased to enter into this partnership with Verified Volunteers through which CASA programs can access a platform specifically designed to effectively and efficiently screen volunteers for service work.” This new partnership means a world of features for CASA volunteer managers and volunteers, including:
- Automatic updates of all active background checks every 30 days for the first year, for no additional cost
- The ability for volunteer managers to receive real-time alerts on any changes in the background screening status of their volunteers
- The ability for volunteer managers to track, communicate with and manage volunteers
- The Fast-Pass: Ability for volunteers to securely share background checks free of charge with multiple volunteer organizations on the platform
Best of all, the platform is simple. With four simple steps, a volunteer can obtain a background check within hours or days, and then share their results with multiple nonprofit organizations. Since many volunteers donate their time to more than one nonprofit, the Verified Volunteers Fast-Pass reduces the obstacle of repeat screening.
Verified Volunteers supports volunteer programs and their volunteers nationwide and is partnered closely with many volunteer centers. For more information, send us an email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
