Making a Difference
Social media has been used increasingly as a tool for raising awareness, but with the success of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, it’s proven to be an effective fundraising platform as well. This grassroots campaign began in late July as a way to benefit the ALS Association and raise awareness of ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. The campaign quickly went viral as many celebrities, politicians and activists joined thousands of others who drenched themselves and donated in support of the campaign. The result: over $22 million raised and an exponential increase in awareness of the disease. The challenge could change the way many causes and organizations look at fundraising strategies.
