Partner Spotlight Minnesota Council of Nonprofits
Posted Tuesday, July 15th, 2014 by Verified Volunteers Staff
When we began our search for a nonprofit partner advancing the state of volunteering in Minnesota and the Twin Cities region, we started by looking for an innovative organization that shared our commitment to fostering more and better volunteering. As the largest state association of nonprofit organizations in the U.S., the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits is now a trusted ally and shining example of innovation when it comes to supporting nonprofits and volunteer managers statewide.
The Minnesota Council of Nonprofits (MCN) is dedicated to educating nonprofit and volunteer managers on key issues affecting service in their communities and across Minnesota. Their unique approach to strengthening the service sector encourages us all to remain informed and share knowledge to help others in the nonprofit community.
MCN’s Mission to Inform and Improve Nonprofits
Founded in 1987, the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits (MCN) is dedicated to building and enhancing both individual nonprofit organizations and Minnesota’s nonprofit sector by offering informative resources and events that include professional development, peer networking, learning opportunities and more.
Unique to MCN, the council created an independent insurance agency within its programs to focus specifically on the needs of nonprofit organizations. The agency, Nonprofit Insurance Advisors, recognizes that nonprofit organizations have unique requirements for insurance. The program works to provide resources that inform leadership about risk management and match organizations to insurance companies based on their specific needs.
Additionally, MCN regularly studies trends in the service sector and conducts research to better understand the status of service in the state. It then uses its findings to provide both nonprofit organizations and the public with information on timely issues to build a stronger community of service.
Creating a Stronger Service Community Throughout Minnesota
Through their informational and educational resources and the collaboration of more than 2,000 organizations and independent members, the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits has significantly impacted the state of volunteering in Minnesota.
Minnesota is now ranked second in the nation in volunteering with more than 165 million service hours statewide, according to the Corporation for National & Community Service.
We are proud to welcome this tremendous association into our family of partners and we are honored to be a part of even more volunteer successes to come.
The Minnesota Council of Nonprofits offers several e-newsletters to keep members and supporters of the service sector up to date on the latest news, trends and issues. Sign up here if you would like to stay informed. You can also get updates by connecting with MCN on Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn.
In the coming weeks we will be sharing additional partner announcements in Twin Cities so stay tuned! Have a nonprofit organization that’s doing great things in your community? Tell us about them in the comments below and we’ll consider them for a future blog post feature.
